Ombili Foundation – close to Kempinski Mokuti Lodge, Etosha

Some farmers from the Tsumeb region started this project in aid of the San (Bushmen). Klaus-Jochen Mais-Rische provided the San with a sustainable environment on his farm Hedwigslust and gave 300 previously nomadic San a new home. Here, the San learn craftsmanship, how to keep cattle and to grow maize and beans. The farm is situated North-East of Etosha’s Namutoni Gate.  Our guests can visit this project en route to Etosha and take part in a Bushman Arts and Crafts workshop, or a traditional cooking class, using plants found in the desert. Here you can learn more about the traditional life of the almost extinct Bushmen and enjoy a performance of the Omibli Choir.

Northern Namibia: Otjikondo School and Orphanage

– located between Kamanjab and Outjo In 1989, Reiner and Gillian Stommel purchased the farm Otjikondo and decided to renovate the old buildings and turn them into a Primary School for underprivileged Namibian children.  The Otjikondo School Village was established and registered as NGO of which the Hanns-Seidel Foundation became a partner in the development of the project. The project aims to offer academic opportunities to give poor children a future perspective in a global world. Therefore Otjikondo offers high quality education and encourages a programme of afternoon activities and extra lessons to enable the children to discover talents and interests. Reiner and Gillian Stommel continue to guide and develop the Otjikondo School Village project. Their and the contribution of visitors show what can be achieved through private initiative for the benefit of Namibian children. Our guests are able to visit to the school and get an insight of the day to day life. Donations of school materials are very welcome.

Swakopmund: Interactive Soccer Events

If you would like to include a team-building activity with a social aspect into your travel itinerary, Terra Nova can organise interactive soccer tournaments with local underprivileged children. Guests are divided into groups and allocated to a team of children, which they have to coach and support throughout the “round robin” soccer matches. The interaction between visiting guests and children is always wonderful. Guests always take their role very seriously and work hard to encourage their teams to win the event. The loud cheers attract a huge amount of spectators to the venue. The children enjoy the soccer games as well as the interaction with the foreign visitors. Funds donated by our clients help sports clubs in the townships to support their talented players and thus get them off the streets as well as maintain their sports grounds and buy new equipment.

The DRC School Project and Community Centre has been founded to assist the needs of a growing disadvantaged community in the Swakopmund Municipal District. The DRC School Project & Community Centre has created a centre for the community in order to provide services such as; basic education, health information and a cultural forum. The centre serves the community as a whole while focusing mainly on issues facing mothers and children. The DRC is a rapidly growing re-settlement area on the eastern outskirts of Swakopmund. As a municipal area the DRC lacks many services such as supplementary education programmes, health education etc. The community is marginalized by its distance from the town centre. Services to aid the community in its transition from a rural to an urban area are desperately needed. The DRC School Project provides an educational centre for the DRC community. Windhoek Hand in Hand Soup Kitchen

In the township of Katutura, a few projects have been initiated and are now looked after by Namibian-born Jutta Rohwer. During a visit to Windhoek, the following projects can be visited. This building, built with the aid of donations, is used on weekdays to cook hot meals for neglected and starving children. Women volunteers help to provide sick and undernourished children from 6 months to 16 years with at least one balanced meal a day. The volunteers also play with the children and pre-school children receive help in reading, maths and writing. The women attend Aids-Education-Workshops and learn how to do crafts and needlework. They learn to make their own products, which they can sell to make a living. The soup kitchen has become very busy. A few hundred children receive food and some basic care so they can live like children, learn and play. The aim is to give these children a decent way of life and a chance to go to school and receive education. One of our incentive clients visited the Katutura Project at the end of…
