Windhoek Hand in Hand Soup Kitchen

In the township of Katutura, a few projects have been initiated and are now looked after by Namibian-born Jutta Rohwer. During a visit to Windhoek, the following projects can be visited. This building, built with the aid of donations, is used on weekdays to cook hot meals for neglected and starving children. Women volunteers help to provide sick and undernourished children from 6 months to 16 years with at least one balanced meal a day. The volunteers also play with the children and pre-school children receive help in reading, maths and writing. The women attend Aids-Education-Workshops and learn how to do crafts and needlework. They learn to make their own products, which they can sell to make a living. The soup kitchen has become very busy. A few hundred children receive food and some basic care so they can live like children, learn and play. The aim is to give these children a decent way of life and a chance to go to school and receive education. One of our incentive clients visited the Katutura Project at the end of their trip to Namibia. They were able to get in touch with HIV positive children and have a workshop with Project Leader Mrs Jutta Rohwer to discuss the problems they are facing in terms of education and HIV prevention. With the donation received, the project could buy new school books as well as Christmas presents for the children. Guests visiting the soup kitchen can interact with the children, help prepare a meal or hand out soup to the children.
